| Specialising
in teaching woodcarving and sculpture,
Zoe Gertner
is a fully qualified teacher,
Adult
Education tutor and professional woodcarver who
studied anatomy and physiology as part of her
Honours degree. Her students are from
all walks of life, including the inmates of an HM
Establishment; and her wood carving courses,
classes and lessons she holds in Devon, South
West England are for people of any age from 8
years upwards. Many retired people have found
wood carving and sculpture tuition gives
them a new and absorbing leisure activity, as
have woodworkers, woodturners and craft workers,
those from medical and educational professions
and others seeking respite from the stresses of
life. |

Zoe is
experienced in practising and teaching all aspects of wood carving and
wood sculpture including relief carving,
lettering, signboards, ecclesiastical,
restoration, fairground and carousel work,
having
been a professional woodcarver and sculptor
since 1980.
Formerly living in Somerset, she carved a
series of bench ends depicting the local
industries of that area for St Mary's Church, Wedmore,
Somerset, and for several years taught Adult
Education courses in wood carving for Strode
College, Somerset; Bude in Cornwall and Holsworthy in Devon. Her woodcarvings can also be
found in other Mendip churches as well as as
well as in private collections all over the
world.
Currently, Zoe
writes for the 'Woodcarving' magazine and
has a number of her earlier articles included in its two
compendium books, 'The
Woodcarvers' and 'Wood Carving for
Beginners', published by GMC Publications.
She has also contributed to 'Traditional
Woodworking', 'Practical Woodworking' and 'The Woodworker'
magazines in previous years.
Everything a
beginner needs to know is covered in her book 'Woodcarving
- A Foundation Course', which includes a
progressive series of
projects designed to help you develop basic
carving skills. details
In response to her
students Zoe is
producing
wood carving projects on CD's showing the basic techniques of
woodcarving, ideal for the beginner woodcarver
and those wishing guidance.
A range of topics is covered including a
comprehensive guide to sharpening woodcarving
tools, incised lettering techniques and
various carving projects you can follow.
Throughout the year Zoe will be adding new
titles to the collection.
